FREE COMMUNITY RECYCLING AND PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK

SpectraCare Health Systems, Inc., Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Discovery Recycling, The Ark, and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System are proud partners in this community event hosted by Assured Data Destruction to offer a Free Community Recycling and Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

This recycling event aims to raise public awareness of the need to securely destroy confidential material in order to prevent identify theft and fraud,” said Cynthia Green, Director of Development at Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center. She added, “It also encourages people to recycle more,” said Green. WRC’s shred division--Assured Data Destruction is AAA NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) Certified, the highest certification available for the secure document destruction business.

SpectraCare Health Systems, Inc. Prescription Drug Take Back provides an environmentally safe, anonymous way to dispose of unwanted, leftover, or expired medications. “Research shows that keeping leftover medications in the home provides a temptation for misuse, a reason for theft, and an overdose hazard for all ages,” said Marlene Lassiter, Substance Abuse Prevention Presenter at SpectraCare. She added, “The Houston County Sheriff Office will be on hand to dispose of the medications in accordance with DEA guidelines, and students from Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine are generously volunteering their time to help sort and identify the medications received.”  SpectraCare provides mental health and substance abuse services, as well as, developmental disability services to thousands throughout Alabama annually.

As a service to the community and the environment, The Ark and Discovery Recycling will accept your old and unwanted electronic devices. The residents at The Ark are taught how to disassemble and recycle the materials so they don't go into a landfill.

Please join us at the Houston County Farm Center on Saturday, April 27th from 8am-12pm. The Community Recycling and Take Back Day provides an opportunity to safely dispose of medications, get rid of sensitive documents, and recycle electronics in an environmentally friendly way.  For more information on additional take back locations please call 800-951-HELP (4357). You can also follow us on Facebook for event updates.
