Freezing rain, sleet or snow could make the evening commute a messy one in parts of Alabama today.
A winter weather advisory will go into effect at 8 a.m. for several north Alabama counties and will last until 9 p.m. today.
The National Weather Service expects a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and a little snow to fall on parts of north Alabama later today, and it could make roads hazardous for travelers later.
The counties under the winter weather advisory are Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence (a new addition early this morning), Limestone, Madison and Jackson.
