FROM FORMER DOTHAN POLICE CHIEF JOHN POWELL
IN REFERENCE TO RETIRED
DOTHAN POLICE CAPTAIN LARRY DRAUGHON
Captain Larry Draughn (Retired) passed today. He was a good person, a better friend and a true professional. I first met Larry when I was appointed as Chief of the Dothan Police Department in March of 2005. At that time he was assigned as a Patrol Lieutenant and was doing what his passion in life was, serving the public as a law enforcement professional. Larry welcomed me and in a short time we built a relationship that would remain and grow stronger as time passed.
I grew to have a deep respect for Larry's ability to handle people from all walks of life, his deep respect for the citizens and visitors he served and the personnel under his charge. My respect and admiration for his professional standing guided me to assign him as the Officer-In-Charge of the largest Division in the Dothan Police Department, Uniform Patrol. At first he was assigned as the Acting Captain and then promoted as a fulltime Captain within the Dothan Police Department. In his assignments he provided me counsel, guidance and friendship. I will always value the time I was allowed to work with a true professional such as Larry.
Dothan has lost a fine human being who served without hesitation to all citizens and visitors in Dothan and Houston County, Alabama. His guidance, counsel and friendship to the good men and women who served with him at the Dothan Police Department has made the community a better place. His life has left good memories for those who knew him and made us all just a little better for knowing him. May GOD bless him in his new journey and may his family always be proud of his accomplishments, dedication and the honor he brought to the life GOD gave him.
John Powell
