Funeral Arrangements For Retired Dothan Police Captain Larry Draughon

Larry Eugene Draughon, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 65.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 23, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Eddie Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mr. Draughon was born on July 2, 1952 in Ft. Rucker, Alabama and resided in Dothan most of his life. He was a 1970 graduate of Dothan High School. Mr. Draughon joined the US Army and served for 3 years in the 101st Airborne. He joined the City of Dothan Police Department in 1976 and served for over 33 years before his retirement in October 1, 2010. Mr. Draughon and his wife Kim enjoyed golfing, canoeing, and archery together, as he was an excellent marksman.

Mr. Draughon was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Draughon.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Draughon; his mother, Myrtle Draughon; his brothers, Ronnie (Cathy) Gerry and Timmy (Lisa) Draughon; his sisters, Tina (Steve) Clay and Wanda (Sparky) Parker; his nieces, Jennifer (Justin) Kyser, Jess (Jessie) Beck, Stephanie (James) Druckenmiller, Jenina, and Jordan; his nephew, Hayes; 1 great niece, Taylor Kyser and 2 great nephews, Crosby and Reid Druckenmiller.
