MONTGOMERY, July 27, 2017—Rosemary Elebash, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, released the following statement today following a ceremony at which Gov. Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 316, which says businesses will no longer be required to purchase a delivery license if their deliveries do not exceed $10,000 annually in a taxing jurisdiction where the business has no other physical presence:

“Senate Bill 316 is commonsense legislation that’s going to make it a lot easier for entrepreneurs to compete and succeed and grow their businesses.

“Requiring businesses to buy separate licenses in every jurisdiction where they might make deliveries was cumbersome and expensive, and that put small businesses at a real competitive disadvantage. S.B. 316 helps level the playing field and makes it easier for small businesses not only to compete but to thrive.

“On behalf of our members, I want to thank Sen. Paul Sanford and Rep. Paul Lee for shepherding this long-needed reform through the Legislature, and I want to thank Governor Ivey for signing it into law.”

Governor Ivey signed S.B. 316 today at a State Capitol ceremony attended by Elebash and NFIB members Rep. Chris Sells, Don Jones, Randal Ward, Matt Ward, Steve Kampwerth, and Dale Townsend.
