Gulf Shores will celebrate its 40th Mardi Gras parade in 28 days on Fat Tuesday. It will occur slightly less than one year after the 2017 parade was abruptly canceled following a tragic accident that injured a dozen members of the high school band.

The Gulf Shores City Council on Tuesday approved an amendment for the city's parade permit. The approval allows the parade to roll at 10 a.m. on Feb. 13, but at a different location.

This year's parade will begin at Alabama 59 and 182 and traverse slightly less than two miles east along Beach Boulevard. It will conclude at Alabama 135 at Gulf State Park Pier.

In past years, the parade rolled along Alabama 59 and required the city to shut down its most popular thoroughfare to and from the beaches. But out of safety and traffic concerns, city officials decided this year to relocate the parade to Beach Boulevard.
