Tonight the Headland Dixie Youth 11-12 year olds winners of the Alabama crown were honored with a "send off" ceremony. They will begin play in the World Series Friday in Oxford, Alabama. The team and coaches arrived at the town square riding on the Headland fire truck escorted by the Headland police. Mayor Ray Marler welcomed everyone. Former Mayor Donnie Smith led in prayer. Jody Singleton, director, congratulated the team on their success. He then introduced State Senator Billy Beasley who presented the team a check for $500 to help with expenses. Coach Jason Steele introduced the players and coaches as they were presented with medals from the city.
The Headland Dixie Youth 11-12 year olds have played in the state tournament four out of the last five years. Last year the team won the World Series.
