The Health Management Workshop for Sheep and Goat Herds is scheduled for April 14th at the Houston County Extension Office located at 1699 Ross Clark Circle in Dothan. The workshop starts at 9am and concludes at 12pm. Admission and lunch is FREE! This workshop is designed for anyone that has an interest in expanding their knowledge about raising healthy sheep and goats. The workshop will cover such topics as:
* Tagging
* Injection sites
* Hoof health management,
* FAMACHA system for worm control
* California Mastitis Test to detect
mastitis in does and ewes
* Newborn care
* Body condition scoring
* Nutritional and good forage
management
* Biosecurity measures
* Proper disposal of medication and
other substances
Hands-on demonstrations will be held at the farm of a local sheep/goat producer.
Admission and lunch are free; however, pre-registration is greatly appreciated.

As a result of attending this workshop, goat and sheep producers will learn the best management practices for the care of sheep and goat herds. By following these practices, producers will be able to minimize mortality rates among animals, and learn sustainability
strategies to increase business profits.
