Abbeville Herald reports'
SUNDAY MORNING WEATHER BRIEFING . . . . Henry County EMA Director Ronnie Dollar said Irma has now hit the Florida Keys and has taken a northward trend. There is still question as to when it will effect our area, but it is expected to be Monday. Red Cross certified shelters will open today (Sunday) at 4:00 p. m. in the Abbeville United Methodist Church and Headland First Baptist Church. Those seeking shelter there are also asked to bring a pillow and some type of bedding. In addition, shelter is also being provided at First Baptist Church of Abbeville, Balkum Baptist Church, and Judson Baptist Church. Persons needing transportation to the shelters are asked to call the Abbeville Police Department at 334-585-2222 or the Headland Police Department at 334-693-2222. Dollar said when wind speeds hit 45 - 50 MPH that service or emergency service will not be available due to safety issues. Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday and the Henry County Courthouse will be closed Monday. The next briefing will take place this afternoon and we will update.
