DOTHAN:    Honeysuckle Middle School was served and a search warrant executed for "documents". A filing cabinet was removed from the school.


This search warrant was not served by the municipal police department, or the Sheriff Department, but was served by the State Bureau of Investigation.


First let me admit, under the Senator Del Marsh plan of the creation of the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement, the State Bureau of Investigation is not the premier investigation unit it once was. But that aside, the State Bureau of Investigation unit executed the search warrant.


Dothan School Board Chairman Harry Wayne Parrish. No doubt he is a good football coach. No doubt that he loves football. On Friday night he is on the sidelines helping coach Northview High School.


But he is the leader, for now, of the Dothan City Schools. They have been unable to keep Superintendents. The school system needs management.


This is the first of the investigation. More to come. Honeysuckle Middle School needs some firm management. The school system needs some firm management.


There is less than one month to go before the changing of guards when Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz will take over the reigns of the Dothan City School System. I thought he was crazy when he decided to seek the post of School Board Chairman.


No doubt Mike loves this community. And no doubt he saw a need that was evident and was willing to take the challenge for the children of this community.


He will take the reigns and guide the system into a positive structure.


A few words of advise. You are a peacemaker, and your way obviously has been more successful than mine.


But as Mayor there were some people in management that should have heard the words YOUR FIRED!. In private business, some things put up with in the City of Dothan would have never been tolerated in private business.


So when you hit the school system, please do not be afraid to say the words, YOU ARE FIRED!.  And tell AEA...where to go.


All of the people of Dothan know you will make the best decisions for the children and the future of the school system. So do not worry.


Just roll up your sleeves and get it straightened out.
