Houston County Fire Association Christmas Party

HOUSTON COUNTY:       Tonight the Houston County Volunteer Fire Chief’s Association gathered at the Houston County Farm Center for their annual Christmas Party.


Houston County has 17 Volunteer Fire Departments, 5 Volunteer Emergency Medical Services, 2 search and rescue services. 


Joining the Volunteer Fire Chief’s tonight for the Christmas Party was the cook who served as Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director and Retired as Dothan Fire Marshall was Shelby Womack. He cooks the shrimp boil each year for the Christmas Party.


’Also joining Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver, Houston County Commissioners Doug Sinqefield, and Ricky Herring. Hosuton County Sheriff Donald Valenza and Houston County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jeff Carlisle.


A great cake was baked by Wicksburg Volunteer Fire-Rescue Chief Wanda Andress. The party is managed by Martha Harrell of Southern Junction Volunteer Fire Department.


Dothan-Houston County Emergency Managenent Director Chris Judah also serves as the “elected” President of the Houston County Volunteer Fire Chief Association. This January marks two years Director Judah has been elected by the Fire Chief’s to serve as Association President.


Tonight Director Judah recognized two people. Judah thanked Chairman Culver and the Houston County Commission for their support of the Volunteer Fire and EMS. Judah presented a plaque to District 2 Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield for his service and dedication to working with the Houston County Volunteer Fire and EMS. Commissioner Sinquefield is at most every monthly association meeting.


Commissioner Sinquefield shows up at some of the calls, rolls up his sleeves and goes to work helping the volunteers in their work. Sinquefield also visits all over Houston County to those who might have lost thier homes in a fire.


Director Judah thanked him for his support.


The Fire Association voted to recognize Rehobeth Assistant Fire Chief Nick Floyd as Houston County Volunteer Fireman of the Year. Nick helps departments all over Houston County with fire services and rescue services.


Nick’s wife was in the hospital preparing for a C section for their first child. There was a structure fire the night before while they were in the hospital. Seeing the he was itching to respond to help, Nick’s wife told him to go.


At the scene you saw Nick’s flip flops where be left them, suited up and helped fight the fire.


Nick is always in a service mode ready and willing to help.
