HOUSTON COUNTY: Houston County Jail Captain Keith Reed turns in his notice of retirement to Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza.
Reed was a Sergeant with Dothan Police Department. After Dothan City Manager Mike West "most important decision as City Manager" ( of which he totally screwed up ) in the appointment of John Powell as Dothan Police Chief, Reed was demoted to the rank of Corporal.
The demotion was because Sgt. Reed was critical of Chief John Powell.
After Andy Hughes was elected as Houston County Sheriff he hired Reed from Dothan Police Department and made his Commander ( later changed to Captain ) of the jail.
Reed was going to leave in November as we understand. And he was spending money on items that Sheriff Valenza did not approve. As we understand a large amount of money was spent on new floors in the administrative offices of the jail without the knowledge and consent of Sheriff Valenza.
Sheriff Valenza removed Reed's ability to spend money or even get a purchase order. So needless to say that chapped Reed's buttocks. The budget of the Houston County Jail was placed under the command of Captain Bill Rafferty.
So today Captain Keith Reed turned in his 30 days notice effective today.
