You know it's serious when Waffle House is on storm alert.
The Georgia-based chain known for its 365-day, 24-hour service tweeted out a photo Wednesday showing its activated Storm Center with personnel monitoring conditions as the hurricane makes its way towards the coasts of South Carolina and North Carolina.
According to FOX NEWS
Waffle House is routinely used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as an unofficial, on-the-ground barometer of local conditions. Local FEMA officials will call a Waffle Houses when a storm hits, assigning an index of conditions: green means the restaurant is open and serving its regular menu; yellow means a scaled-back menu and likely issues with water or power; and red means the restaurant is closed and the area is likely in need of assistance.
Waffle House uses its own fleet of response units that transport generators, communications equipment and other items that can assist a restaurant in reopening quickly. Its response plans were developed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when storms destroyed seven Waffle Houses and forced 100 more to close.
