October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  The House of Ruth will hold a Candlelight Vigil to remember the domestic violence victims who were murdered in the past year and to pay tribute to those victims who have survived.  The theme for this year’s program is “You Are Not Alone.”  The public is invited and encouraged to attend the vigil. It will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Wiregrass Community Church, 900 West Main Street in Dothan at 5:30 pm.  Area law enforcement will be available on the premises, if needed.  For more information please call (334) 793-5214.

During October, throughout the nation, domestic violence survivors, victim advocates, law enforcement personnel, medical personnel, other professionals and community members will stand together to remember those who were murdered and to make a commitment to act to prevent domestic violence, letting victims know they are not alone.

The House of Ruth is a nonprofit organization that provides in-shelter and out-of-shelter services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault from a nine-county service area in Southeast Alabama. This year marks thirty-six years of community service to victims of domestic violence. These services include victim advocacy, educational programs to the community and a 24-hour crisis line.

If you are a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault please call our 24-hour crisis line, (334)793-2232 (locally) or 1-800-650-6522 (toll free).  All services are free.
