In Regards To My Posting Of DUI Checkpoint

HENRY COUNTY:    Over the weekend I posted that Henry County Sheriff Department held a DUI checkpoint on Friday evening. Since that posting someone on FACEBOOK asked “really”. And someone text me asking why I posted it.


First let me say I welcome people asking me. My cell number is 334-790-1729. I do have three Facebook accounts and not always responsive. But text me or email at [email protected].


The article was posted with the mindset that Dothan Police Department advertises where they are concentrating on running radar. Some states require the posting before a checkpoint is held.


Often times when law enforcement sets up they do not use the same location the second night. So I was not ruining where they were going to set up. But I listed it to create the “fear”, Henry County Sheriff Department is working and setting up checkpoints. If you drink and drive, the chances are greater you will get caught.


That creates the fear of driving after you have been drinking. It is a unmeasurable statistic “did the article STOP someone who had been drinking from driving for fear of being caught because Henry County Sheriff Department was being aggressive?” A question we will never know the answer to.


Henry County Sheriff Department has a limited number of deputies. They can not be everywhere and set up checkpoints everywhere. So the fear could have prevented some.


I was not at the lake but received a phone call about the checkpoint. The article was not done to “out” the Sheriff Department but rather done to prevent others from driving after drinking.


I serve in a UNPAID capacity as Deputy Coroner in Henry County. On Saturday I was on Coroner call for Henry County. By no means did I want to work a traffic related death or death(s).


Also remember, I am in the bail bonding business. The more they arrested the more people who would need a bondsman. So the posting could have cost me bonds to be made.


But my goal was not to make bonds. It was strictly to make sure people knew...Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox had deputies working and conducting checkpoints in order to stop drunk drivers. 


So the article‘s intent was totally different then those perceived.
