HOUSTON COUNTY:    On Monday evening Jeremy Jermaine Jones intentionally and with malicious intent, kill a man ( alleged ) while fleeing from law enforcement after a violent crime spree across Dothan and Houston County.

Prior to the alleged crime spree on Monday, nothing in Jeremy Jermaine Jones criminal record indicated violent behavior.

His arrests included a 2013 Escape from Community Corrections, a 2011 Burglary third degree, a 2011 Possession of Cocaine, a 2007 Escape, a 2007 Possession of Marijuana, a 2007 Use/Posess Drug Paraphenelia, a 2004 Possession of Cocaine, a 2007 Driving While Suspended.

On February 19, 2019 Abbeville Police Department chased Jones from Abbeville into Dothan where he finally stopped on West Adams Street. Jones was issued two traffic citations which were for Speeding and Running a Red Light. Those tickets were issued by Houston County Sheriff Department.

UNCONFIRMED traffic citations or misdemeanor arrests were issued to Jones by Abbeville Police. The City of Abbeville left Henry County District Court and created Abbeville Municipal Court. Their records are not a part of ALACOURT of which we subscribe and we do not know what the misdemeanor or traffic offenses were for.

On February 19, 2019 Jones was on Parole with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole. The traffic citations would not have triggered any violation of which Jeremy Jermaine Jones parole could be violated for and his parole revoked and sent back to prison.

There were no felony arrest made on Jones as a result of the February 19, 2019 chase from Abbeville to Dothan. 

You ask about the escape in 2013.

Jones was in Community Corrections when he was arrested for Escape. That does not mean that it was an actual "breaking out of jail" but could be failure to return to community corrections after working. The arrest warrant was signed by Houston County Community Corrections in the 2013 Escape case. Being in Community Corrections you are actually a inmate of the Alabama Department of Corrections but placed in the custody of Houston County Community Corrections. The inmates failure to report back to Community Corrections results in an escape charge.

On March 31, 2014 Jeremy Jermaine Jones was sentenced by 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson to 20 years for the Escape charge. On that date Jones began to serve that sentence. Jones had been in custody on this offense from November 6, 2013 until sentencing date on March 31, 2014. Jones was given credit for 146 days of being in custody on the sentence imposed by Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson.

Jones was served notice of his prior convictions being used against him and is why the maximum sentence was imposed by Judge Larry Anderson.

On June 23, 2016 the Houston County Circuit Clerk's Office received notice that Jeremy Jermaine Jones was released from the Alabama Department of Corrections and placed on Parole with the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Jones applied for a payment plan in the cases where he owed the court money.

There had been no arrests since Jones 2016 release from the Alabama Department of Corrections and placed on parole with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole.

Some have asked why Jones was not revoked from Parole following the February 19, 2019 chase from Abbeville to Dothan. Had Jones been arrested from the chase then Parole and Probation would have revoked his parole. We see this happen daily with the Alabama Pardons and Parole Office. But the traffic offenses would not have resulted in a revocation of Jones parole.

Until yesterday, nothing in Jones previous arrests indicated violence. And do not take from the Escape Charges violence. While the 2013 arrest warrants do not indicate the narrative for the Escape, and failure to report back is serious, is was not one of violence. The date of the Escape was October 29, 2013 and the arrest was November 6, 2013.

What caused Jones to become violent on Monday, who knows. Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish described Jones, in the Police Department interview, as knowing what he was doing on Monday.
