Judge orders mediation in Spencer Collier lawsuit against Robert Bentley

Montgomery County Circuit Judge Greg Griffin today ordered mediation in Spencer Collier’s defamation lawsuit against former Gov. Robert Bentley, Rebekah Mason and others.


Griffin appointed mediators and directed the parties in the lawsuit to contact the mediators within 14 days and to schedule the mediation within 45 days after that.


The case is scheduled to go to trial in September.


Kenneth Mendelsohn, Collier’s attorney, said the mediation order is not out of the ordinary.


“Judges are always trying to encourage parties to settle, both criminal and civil cases,” Mendelsohn said.


Mark Foley, an attorney for Bentley, said he could not comment because of the confidentiality of mediation.
