HENRY COUNTY: Recently appointed to the 20th Judicial Circuit as a Circuit Judge. Todd Derrick realizes the 20th Judicial Circuit is made up of Houston and Henry County.
Judge Derrick had a swearing in at the Houston County Courthouse.
Judge Todd Derrick was raised in Geneva County, the 33rd Judicial Circuit which was made up of Geneva and Dale County.
So Judge Todd Derrick wanted to make sure that he had the people of Henry County be a part of the meeting and swearing in of another Circuit Judge. Allowing the citizens to meet him and more importantly him meet the citizens on Henry County.
So this past Friday afternoon at the Henry County Courthouse Judge Todd Derrick had a swearing in ceremony in the Henry County Courthouse in Abbeville. Sending a signal to the citizens of Henry County, Todd Derrick realizes he serves both Houston and Henry County - the 20th Judicial Circuit.
One bad thing about being a Judge, you can not talk to the parties of a case without their attorney's being present. Both attorneys in the case. And a Judge can not comment about pending cases before them. So they take the beating from public comments and can not comment back. And most people make comments without knowing the "facts" of a case.
On Friday was a time to just meet Judge Derrick and chat.
