Information for Visitors to Dothan due to Hurricane Irma

logorgb

Landmark Park, Alabama’s official museum of agriculture, is pleased to offer historic Southern hospitality to those coming to Dothan due to Hurricane Irma. The park extends its heartfelt best wishes for the safety of those traveling during the storm.

Beginning on Saturday, September 9 and going through September 15, park gates will be open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. each day to allow visitors to set up camp with their RVs or tents. Livestock trailers are welcome. These sites are first come, first served. The Landmark Park office is not manned after hours, so calls will only be answered during park hours (Mon.-Sat. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun. noon-6 p.m.) The charge is $15 per day per site. Unfortunately, Landmark Park does not have hook-ups for RVs, only sites to park your vehicle or to tent camp. After park hours, campers will have access to handicapped accessible bathrooms and the playground. During park hours, visitors will have access to all areas of the park at no additional charge. While pets are usually not allowed at Landmark Park, campers are allowed to have pets with them at their campsites but they must stay on a leash at all times.

Special activities are scheduled during the week at Landmark Park. Educational movies will be shown in the Interpretive Center Auditorium on the hour from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. These movies—from the Eyewitness Nature and Magic School Bus series—are approximately 30 minutes in length and cover a variety of topics. Free popcorn is available during the movies.

The Martin Drugstore will offer buy one, get one free on single dip ice cream cups or cones during the week. This offer is valid with a Florida or Georgia ID.

Special presentations in the Digitarium Planetarium will take place at 3:30 p.m. each day for $3 per person. These full-dome movies will focus on the magic of outer space and are great for all ages. Additional regularly scheduled shows are on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m.

A blacksmithing demonstration will be held on Saturday, September 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Wiregrass Farmstead. This demo is free with your admission.

Visitors to the park are also encouraged to visit our Wiregrass Farmstead, boardwalk, nature trail, playground, Martin Drugstore and soda fountain and other exhibits and buildings around the 135 acre property. Picnic tables are available and outside food may be brought into the park. No alcohol please.

Landmark Park is a 135-acre natural science and history museum located on the outskirts of Dothan.  Features of the park include nature trails, a planetarium, playground, picnic areas, an elevated boardwalk, a turn-of-the-century farmstead with sheep, chickens, cows and other farm animals and crops typical of an 1890s farm.  In addition, the park includes a drugstore with operating soda fountain, one-room school, general store, and historic church, all preserved from the surrounding area. The park is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.  Regular admission is $4 adults, $3 for children and is free for park members and children age 2 and under.  The park is located on U.S. Hwy 431 North, three miles north of Dothan’s Ross Clark Circle.  For more info, call 334-794-3452 or visit www.landmarkparkdothan.com.
