Officers with the DeFuniak Springs Police were called to La Rumba on New Year’s Day for suspected counterfeit bills. Employees stated that a white male had ordered food and paid with counterfeit $20 bills. The suspect became upset and exited the restaurant before police could arrive.
Employees recognized the suspect as 29 year old Kevin Ray Rose. Officers were unable to locate Rose. On January 2nd, Officers responded to Sundown Inn. A motel employee stated that a man had checked in and paid for his room using counterfeit bills. The suspect was identified by the employee as Kevin Rose. Officers made contact with Rose who denied knowing the bills were false.
Detectives and an Investigator with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office tracked down Rose at a residence outside of the City. Rose agreed to accompany Detectives to the Police Department and speak with them. During questioning, Rose made inconsistent statements as to who provided him the bills and to his knowledge of them being counterfeit.
Rose was arrested for two counts of Uttering Counterfeit Bills and booked into the Walton County Jail where he is currently awaiting first appearance.
