Man Charged with Three Counts of Possession of Forged Instrument

City of Slocomb:   On Wednesday August 9, 2017, the Slocomb Police Department was contacted in reference to counterfeit money being used in the business district of Slocomb. Slocomb Police Department Officers Lt. Todd Dorriety and Officer Aaron Cook responded and confirmed the report was in fact true as stated. An Investigation began into this illegal activity.


Lt. Dorriety was able to develop possible suspects thru his investigation, this led to reviewing of the video surveillance footage of the event in question, while doing this, a second report of counterfeit bills was reported by a second business in Slocomb. After speaking to clerks and reviewing the surveillance footage from the second location, it was determined that the same individual was responsible.


During this initial investigation, it was also reported by a local bank and a business in Malvern, Alabama that they had received counterfeit bills as well. Being this third incident was out of Slocomb Police Jurisdiction, Geneva County Investigator Scotty Howerton was contacted and he began his investigation into the illegal activity as well. Investigators from both agencies begin working the case from the suspect that was developed by SPD, and both agencies did jointly begin working together and located suspect, Identified as Wayne Kevin Ward Jr, of the Slocomb- Fadette area. During the investigation and interview, it was revealed that Ward did and was in fact the individual responsible for this crime of counterfeit money.


Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and Slocomb Police Department did sign warrants on three counts of Possession of A Forged Instrument on Ward.  On 8/15/2017,Ward was located and picked up at his residence by Geneva County Deputy Martin and transported to Geneva County Jail.  Chief White would like to Thank Sheriff Tony Helms for his assistance, and his Investigator Scotty Howerton in working with Slocomb Police Department to quickly solve this crime for both of the respective jurisdictions.
