On February 15, 2018, a Deputy was sitting stationary at a traffic control device at the intersection of Kimbell Road and Fort Road when a vehicle traveling east bound on Fort road came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the roadway. The Deputy noted the vehicle lights then turned off before turning back on and continuing on the roadway.
As the vehicle began traveling on the roadway again the Deputy began to follow the vehicle and activated his radar and confirmed his suspicion the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, 76mph in a 55mph zone. The Deputy activated his emergency lights on his marked patrol vehicle to initiate a traffic stop; however, the vehicle failed to yield and pull over. While chasing the suspect the driver of the vehicle displayed an open folding pocket knife out of the driver side window.
The Deputy continued to pursue the suspect south on Highway 69 into Grand Ridge, Florida where they then turned left and began traveling east bound on Highway 90 towards Sneads, Florida. With the assistance of Sneads Police Department, the pursuing Deputies were able to slow the suspect to a stop. The suspect then placed his vehicle into reverse and accelerated. This action caused the suspect’s vehicle to strike the Deputy’s marked patrol vehicle causing minor damage.
After the collision, Deputies and assisting units were able to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
