On the night of 8/10/2017 an anonymous caller reported to the Marianna Police Department that a black male subject had been seen outside the Orchard Pointe Apartment complex waving a black handgun in a threatening manner while involved in a verbal dispute with a black female. Officers arrived at the apartment complex and learned that the male subject had just left the apartment complex driving a Red Nissan 4door car.
On the night of 8/11/2017 it was reported to the Marianna Police Department that the same vehicle was circling slowly through the apartment complex driven by the same subject. The caller described it to be suspicious in nature. Upon officer’s arrival at the Orchard Pointe Apartment complex, the vehicle was observed entering the apartment complex from Jefferson St. The vehicle circled through the apartment complex and began traveling towards the exit of the complex. It was at this time the responding officer in a marked patrol unit activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle in question. The vehicle then fled from the officer and headed north on Jefferson St. The officer, with lights and sirens activated, followed the vehicle north until it turned onto Kent Drive and proceeded west. The vehicle then jumped a curb, traveled over a side walk, and collided into the corner of an occupied apartment.
The black male driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot towards another apartment. While officers gave chase they ordered the driver to stop, but he failed to comply. The subject then entered an apartment and attempted to close the door. It was at this time the pursuing officer deployed and fired a dart firing stun gun. The subject became incapacitated and was able to be placed under arrest
While conducting a search of the subject’s person, a loaded 9 mm, black in color, handgun was located inside his pants pocket. When asked for identification, the subject stated his name was Jermaine Johnson and would not give any further information. Upon conducting an inventory search of the vehicle a Florida Identification card was located which identified the subject as Jantz Anthony Reinard Johnson. Johnson’s ID number was then checked by Marianna Communications Officer. It was determined that Johnson’s driver’s license status was suspended. It was also determined that Johnson is a convicted felon.
Johnson was later transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
