On May 5, 2017, at approximately 1:10am, officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of Jefferson Street and Kelson Avenue. The stop was conducted due to multiple equipment violations on the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected emanating from the vehicle.
Hollis was identified as the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle. Hollis was asked to exit the vehicle and asked about the odor. Hollis freely admitted to marijuana use in the vehicle, prior to being stopped by law enforcement. At that time, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search of the vehicle, officers located a glass container, in the passenger floorboard of the vehicle.
Marijuana was located inside the container. In addition to the marijuana, officers located a glass smoking instrument inside the vehicle. This instrument was found to have residue inside of it. Along with the smoking instrument, officers located several pieces of paper, which were noted to have a sticky residue on them. The residue from the smoking instrument, as well as the paper, tested positive for the presence of THC.
Other items related to the ingestion of THC were also located in the vehicle. The residue was determined to be resin from a cannabis plant, a separate and distinct charge from the possession of marijuana.
Nicholas Hollis was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility, to await his first appearance before the court.
