Marianna Man Arrested on Drug Charges

On October 2, 2017, a Deputy with the Patrol Division of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department was patrolling in the Cypress Community, when he observed a driver commit a traffic infraction. A traffic stop was conducted on Hwy 90 near the intersection of Church Street. Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle, the Deputy could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver was given an explanation for the traffic stop and was asked about the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. She denied knowledge of there being any narcotics in the vehicle and subsequently granted consent to search the vehicle.
Upon making contact with the front seat passenger, identified as being Benjamin Bowling, he was observed making a furtive movement with his left hand towards the space between the seat where he was seated and the center console. Prior to searching the vehicle the Deputy observed a small amount marijuana in the passenger floor area.
The search of the vehicle revealed the following items; in between the seat and center console where Bowling had made the furtive movements a gray pen casing with three plastic baggies tied together with black string were located. Two of the baggies recovered contained a white crystallized residue that did field test presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The third baggie contained a crystallized substance that also field tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The pen casing contained a white residue that also field tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
Benjamin Bowling was placed under arrest for the items being found where he was seated in the area where he had made the furtive movements. He was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
Arrested: Benjamin Bowling, 36 years old, a resident of Marianna, FL
Charges: (1) Possession of methamphetamine
(2) Possession of drug paraphernalia
