On 12/30/2017 at approximately 10:48 pm, Officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to a residence on Old Cottondale Rd. in reference to an aggravated assault. Upon arrival, the victim stated that while at her residence located on Yost St. she became involved in a verbal altercation with a subject that she identified as Quinton Beckwith. As the altercation escalated, Beckwith threatened to kill the victim. She then left the residence in fear for her life. The victim advised the officers that Beckwith was in possession of a handgun during the altercation.

Upon receiving the victim’s report, Officers relocated to Yost St. in an attempt to make contact with Beckwith. Officers were informed prior to their arrival, that Beckwith had a felony warrant for his arrest. Upon arrival, Officers observed Beckwith on the front porch of the residence. At sight of law enforcement, Beckwith fled into the residence with Officers giving chase. Upon reaching the entrance of the residence, Beckwith made aggressive actions towards the Officers and then barricaded himself in the home.

Officers quickly created a protective perimeter around the residence and requested backup and assessed the situation for risks.  Based on Beckwith’s desperate actions of barricading himself inside the residence, along with the information of him possessing a firearm and in an effort to protect the citizens residing in the surrounding homes, the decision was made to request activation and the assistance of the Bay County Sherriff’s Office SWAT team.

Upon their arrival, Bay County SWAT was able to peacefully negotiate Beckwith’s surrender. Beckwith was placed under arrest without further incident and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

The Marianna Police Department would like to thank the Jackson Sheriff’s Department, Bay County Sherriff’s Department especially the members of the Bay County SWAT Team, Marianna Fire and Rescue, and Jackson County Fire and Rescue for their assistance in situation.
