Marianna Man Arrested on Multiple Drug Charges

On October 16, 2017, a Deputy with Patrol Division of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department was patrolling on Hwy 69 in the Grand Ridge area. The Deputy observed a traffic infraction on a vehicle traveling South. The Deputy then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as being Derek Benefield, the Deputy could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.
A probable cause search was then conducted of the interior of the vehicle. The search revealed the following; Under the front driver's seat a clear in color plastic casing that contained a white residue. The residue did field test presumptive positive for methamphetamine. In the same area a clear jewelry style baggie was recovered. The baggie had a crystallized substance inside that also field tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine. In the driver's floor board, marijuana shake was found.
At the conclusion of the traffic stop, Derek Benefield, was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility, to await first appearance.
Arrested: Derek Benefield, 27 years of age, a resident of Marianna, FL
Charges: (1) Possession of Methamphetamine
(2) Possession of marijuana less than 20 grams
(3) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
