2nd Cup of Coffee meets tomorrow
SAMC’s 2nd Cup of Coffee meets the second Wednesday of each month inside SAMC’s Terrace Cafeteria at 9:30 a.m. 2nd Cup of Coffee is a component of SAMC’s Senior Discovery Program. The next meeting is Oct. 11. WTVY-TV meteorologist David Paul will be the speaker. He will provide attendees with useful information on the topic of being prepared for severe weather and hurricane season.
Clinical Decision Unit now open
SAMC’s new Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) opened recently. The unit combines the operations of the Heart and Vascular Interventional Unit and Emergency Department Observation Unit. This will enable the hospital to manage outpatients better.
The CDU cohorts short term patients who have undergone an outpatient procedure or who need brief medical observation. This project expands outpatient bed availability and allows for 24/7 care. Patients admitted under observation status will discharge from the CDU. If a CDU patient's stay approaches 24 hours, SAMC will admit them as an inpatient. The CDU will help SAMC manage bed availability, improve patient throughput and reduce Emergency Department diversion.
