Midland City Council Gives Raises To EMT’S

MIDLAND CITY:     This evening RSN attended the meeting of the Midland City Council. RSN arrived during their administrative meeting. The council discussed spending $ 18,500.00 with a engineering firm to monitor their waste water in an agreement with Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba and comrades in the City of Dothan.

The council discussed if two monitoring devices or four would meet the requirement of Dothan. The Mayor of Midland City has approval of up tp four devices but the authority to discuss with Dothan if two woused meet their needs.

In 2009 the City of Dothan began discussion with the outlining communities over the waste water. The smaller communities are really held hostage to Dothan and their price increases ( Rickey’s words Dothan before you get butt hurt with these smaller communities - but it is the truth ), or construct their own waste water treatment plants.

A discussion that started long before this council took the reigns in Midland City. And this council is now forced to do some things that might cause their residents to get in an uproar. But to the citizens, DO NOT take your frustrations out on this council and Mayor. They were not in power when this issue surfaced and your past excuses for leadership did nothing. So this council is forced to pay Dothan’s outrageous prices according to the terms of their hostage situation or construct their own sewage treatment plant.

IN ANOTHER ISSUE

While the Mayor and Council “think” they have made a step forward tonight concerning the EMS, in reality they did not.

The council voted to increase the pay for EMT’S only from $ 15 a run to $ 25 a run. While “hats off” to them, this in reality helps none. 

The south end of Dale County, the EMS coverage, well in journalistic words, “sucks”. Often times OZARK - Dale County 911 has to attempt 5 EMS providers to get a ambulance. Does that make you feel good? While your loved one is gasping for breath - the 911 Center has had to call 5 different EMS providers begging someone to respond to your medical emergency.

Midland City purchased a ambulance. But it is not the responsibility of the Town Council of Midland City to pay for EMS coverage outside the city limits of Midland City. But allow a few questions: (1) Does Midland City have a hospital? NO (2) If the person requires transport, where are the hospitals? Flowers, Southeast Alabama Medical Center, (3) Dale Medical Center (3) How long does it take to transport and pass the patient to the hospital staff? (4) Would you leave what you are doing, travel to the Rescue Station, take the ambulance to the scene, care for the patient, load the patient in the ambulance, travel the distance to the hospital and back, do the report form, re-stock the ambulance and clean the ambulance for the next run, make sure the ambulance was fueled up for the next run, all for $ 25? Also consider, whether Midland City paid for your school or not, the amount of time it took you to attend, study, complete school and continue the Contimuing Education all for $ 25.

Also what is needed beside the EMT? AHHHH... you guessed it, a driver. If they were paying the EMT $ 15 what are they paying the driver?

In the south end of Dale County, you have a medical emergency, better hop in your car and haul butt to Flowers or Dale Medical Center. I am leaving SAMC out because they are constantly on diversion.
