Mike West Hires Melinda McClendon With City of Dothan

DOTHAN:     Three months before Mike West scheduled departure as Dothan’s City Manager, West surprisingly hires a communications director for the City of Dothan.


West hired former Dothan Commissioner & Houston County Commissioner Melinda McClendon.


This position was suggested several years ago during the planning sessions held each year With Lyle Summek. This is where the leadership of Dothan has to pay someone to come to Dothan and make the Commissioners talk.


McClendon left the post of Houston County Commissioner and sought election as Alabama Senator against Senator Harri Anne Smith. Following that election McClendon has been in the background.


Do not have a job description posted to see the duties of this position. It is unknown if the Dothan Commissioners and Mayor have to approve the hire. We do know the position is not on the agenda for Tuesday’s Dothan Commission Meeting.


McClendon is a nice lady and has experience in public relations. Several good candidates applied for this position.


West is scheduled to depart Dothan as City Manager at the end of the year. The Dothan Mayor and Commissioners hired a out of state company to conduct a search for city manager candidates. Names are expected to be presented to the Mayor and Commissioners in the upcoming days.


Perhaps one day someone from Dothan will be smart enough to be Dothan City Manager.
