HOUSTON COUNTY: A full week of criminal jury trials in the 20th Judicial Circuit of Houston County.
20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Kevin Moulton had a jury of 12 peers hear a Murder case involving defendant Jeffrey Loyd Culpepper.
Culpepper was represented by Defense Attorney Adam Parker and Raynor Clifton. Culpepper was charged in the 2017 shooting death of Cornell Lamont Johnson.
The shooting occurred at 1100 Third Avenue at Sandher's Grocery.
The case was prosecuted by 20th Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney Mark Johnson.
The defense case was a "Stand Your Ground Case". The defense attorney's argued self defense.
The state argued against "Stand Your Ground" and claimed Culpepper was not acting in self defense.
Dothan Police investigators determined in the course of their investigation that all parties involved had been in an ongoing dispute for several days.
Culpepper had a valid pistol permit, was a business owner, and had no criminal history.
After hearing the evidence presented the jury of 12 returned a NOT GUILTY verdict on Jeffrey Loyd Culpepper.
