The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has completed its investigation into the December 23, 2017, use- of-force incident against Ulysses Wilkerson III by the Troy, Alabama, Police Department.
On January 8, 2018, Pike County District Attorney Tom Anderson recused himself from involvement in the Wilkerson case at the request of the Wilkerson family. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall appointed District Attorney Michael Jackson and Supernumerary District Attorney Tommy Smith as the prosecuting authority in this use-of-force investigation. On February 8, 2018, SBI Agents met with prosecutors and provided them with a comprehensive investigative file for review. The United States Department of Justice has requested, and will be provided, the complete SBI investigative file for review.
Because the SBI has completed its investigation, all future requests for information should be referred to District Attorney Smith, whose information is included in this release.
