DOTHAN: While I was heading to a motor Vehicle Accident with injuries on Montgomery Hwy this evening, I witnessed some of the most stupid drivers in my life. I have been in fire and EMS for 31 years and it never ceases to amaze me.
When an EMERGENCY VEHICLE (Law Enforcement, Fire or EMS) is responding to an emergency call with lights and siren they are trained to respond in the LEFT lane of traffic.
Drivers operating motor vehicles are to pull to the RIGHT and stop to allow the emergency vehicle to pass safely. (BY LAW) Failure to do so can result in putting the emergency responders and the public in danger not to mention a costly fine.
So the next time you see or hear a emergency vehicle responding lights and siren. PLEASE pull to the right as safely as possible. (Not stop in the middle of the road or pull to the left). If it is not possible to do so, try to at least give them plenty of room.
Just remember when you call 911 and it seems like it takes a long time, idiot drivers could be the reason.
