Southeast Alabama Medical Center AKA Southeast Alabama Medical Diversion Center AKA South Healthcare held a press briefing concerning their name change. The press briefing was AFTER www.rickeystokesnews.com broke the story of the name change.

The six figure Chief Executive Officer Rick Sutton was to busy with the diary cow of Chic- Fil-A to meet with the media. Sutton sent a lady to meet with the media.

WDHN TV 18 was the ONLY media which asked Southeast Alabama Medical Center AKA Southeast Alabama Medical Diversion Center AKA South Healthcare “how much is this re-branding/name change going to cost the hospital?”

FUNNY - how she reacted. Like a deer in headlights!!! She looked off to the side at someone like - can I answer This? And reluctantly she was told she could.

Ladies and Gentleman, patients diverted from the hospital, EMS providers, citizens... after Rick Sutton and the 13 members of the Board of Directors caused 80 or more people to be fired and loose their jobs in “optimization”, 11 of the Board of Directors voted t spend $ 1.2 MILLION DOLLARS changing the name of the hospital.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors is Chester Sowell. He can not vote. According to sources the vote was 11 to 1 on the name change. One vote was in opposition.

Opposing the name change was Bruce Wozow. ( That came from sources other than Bruce Wozow ).

Voting to spend the $ 1.2 Million Dollars for the name change: John McDaniel, Mary Mayo, Stephen L. Fernandez, M.D., Tellis Copeland, James Kelley, PHD., Taylor Knight, Don Owens, Lance Shephard, Tony Strickland, Bob Theune, and Walter Young, M.D.

This past week a lady stopped me in the Publix Shopping Center at Cottonwood Road and Ross Clark Circle. She had read the articles on the diversion And did not understand it. But she had witnessed it when her relative was coming to SAMC and she was told they were on diversion.  She made the ambulance bring her relative to SAMC anyway because all of her records were there.

She also related to me a story about a child they bandaged up, p[laced in a car seat and strapped to a stretcher to transfer to another hospital. Because of diversion.

This is a real problem. Not enough nurses. But hey, what about the 80 plus ya’ll kicked out the door?

Sutton did not have the courage to meet with the media because he is above answering questions. Well above or just a CHICKEN!

But to all who have lost their jobs, to all of the employees working under terrible circumstances at SAMC, to those being diverted from SAMC, to the EMS providers going through misery about what do you do with the patient...

That is the low side of the cost to re-brand and change the name.
