Peggy Ann Hornsby, a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at her residence surrounded with her loving family at her bedside. She was 87.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 3 pm at St. Columba Catholic Church with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. A private family burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Friday evening at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Hornsby requests that donations be made to the Sarah Elizabeth Goree Memorial Fund c/o The Child Advocacy Center, PO Box 8781, Dothan, AL 36304.



Mrs. Hornsby was born on June 10, 1930 in Houston County and was a lifelong resident of Dothan. She was a 1947 graduate of Dothan High School and following graduation, she married Ernest Hornsby, Jr. She was employed with Dothan Cigar and Candy Company, Hav-A-Tampa and Shute Pecan Company. Mrs. Hornsby was extremely loving and dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid Alabama football fan and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church.



She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ernest Hornsby, Jr. who passed away in 2003; her infant son, Stephen Anthony Hornsby; her granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Goree and Samantha Susan Register; her brother, Harold Smith; and her parents, Robert (Daddy Bob) and Tempe Kennedy.



Survivors include her children, Ernie H. (Marianne) Hornsby, Danny M. (Nancy) Hornsby, Phillip A. (Becky) Hornsby and Lisa Ann (Bill) Goree; her grandchildren, Stacey A. Hill, Susan E. Dunham, Jennifer Hornsby, Stephanie N. Tucker, Julie M. Palmer, Hollie M. Warren, Deena M. Renew, Tori M. Browning, Jamie L. Lanier and W. Seth Goree; and her great grandchildren, Benjamin A. Martin, Hayes E. H. Jackson, Mary Elizabeth Hill, Chappell H. L. Hill, Jr., Isabel T. Hill, Anna Caroline Dunham, William J. Dunham, Nathan Tucker, Nicholas Tucker, Aidan Hornsby, Julianna Palmer, Hattie Claire Palmer, Witt Warren, Cohen S. Goree, Sarah Kate Goree, Anna Elizabeth Goree, Steven Blakey, Alanna Horton, Jonathan Horton, Lauren Renew, Evan Renew, Cooper Browning, Taylor Browning, Emma Lanier and Cason Lanier. A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Ruby Laurie and Sharon Dawsey.



Serving as active pallbearers will be Chappell Hill, Sr., Josh Dunham, Seth Goree, Nathan Tucker, Nicholas Tucker and Aaron Palmer. Serving as honorary pall bearers will be her beloved grandsons, great grandsons and her Wednesday Domino Girls Group.
