Physical Altercation Lands One in Jail

On November 25th, 2018 at approximately 10:45pm, officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to 4400 block of Davis Street in reference to a physical altercation in progress. Upon arrival officers learned, Robert James Jones had been involved in a physical altercation with his father.
Officers obtained statements from witnesses indicating, Jones had physically attacked his father after an argument about his mother’s health. Officers learned, Jones had struck his father in the face, and attempted to choke him during this altercation. Jones had held his father down, with his hand around his throat, impeding his ability to breath.
As the altercation escalated, Jones produced a folding knife from his pocket and made statements about cutting and or stabbing his father. Jones was found to be in possession of a knife matching the description given by family members. There were no serious injuries reported as a result of this altercation. Marianna Fire and Rescue were summoned to the scene as a precaution, but medically cleared all parties involved.
Robert James Jones was taken into custody, without incident, and placed under arrest for the aforementioned charges. Jones was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance before the court.
