On October 31, 2018 at approximately 10:40 a.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to the intersection of Lafayette Street and Constitution Lane in reference to a possible physical disturbance. Upon arrival officers located a female subject laying in the grass. Prior to speaking with the female subject, officers were approached by Bertram Williams.

Williams indicated, he had been driving the female subject’s vehicle, in an attempt to get her to Jackson Hospital. In speaking with the female subject, officers were able to determine the female subject had been the victim of a domestic battery. She positively identified the perpetrator as Bertram Williams, her live in boyfriend.

As officers were interviewing the female, she indicated, Williams was transporting illegal narcotics in the vehicle they were traveling in, prior to the physical altercation.  The vehicle in question was noted to be parked on Constitution Lane, near where the female had been located.

A narcotics K-9 Unit, with the Davie Police Department, was deployed near the aforementioned vehicle. The canine performed an exterior sniff of the vehicle, and alerted near the driver’s door of the vehicle. The canine was then deployed inside the vehicle and performed and interior sniff of the vehicle. The canine again alerted, this time near the area under the driver’s seat, where Williams had been seated, per his own statements.  A search of the vehicle revealed, 18 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of crack cocaine, less than 20 grams of marijuana, and some drug paraphernalia.

Bertram Williams was placed under arrest for the aforementioned charges, and transported to the Jackson County Jail, without incident, to await his first appearance before the court.
