DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:    Since 1977 I have been involved in emergency services. Getting my start with Sheriff A.B. Clark and Mrs. Runell Clark.

Not one time since 1977 have I ever known that Pilcher Ambulance has ever missed a call. Pilcher Ambulance started because of the vision of Mr. Joe and Mrs. Ruby Pilcher. Ironically related to Sheriff A.B. and Mrs. Runell Clark.

Prior to the The Pilcher’s vision the Ambulance services were run through, guess who? The funeral homes.

Joe and Ruby Pilcher made the ambulance service work.

Then their son Joey Pilcher came along. He grew up in the ambulance service. In later years Joey took over the ambulance service. Both of his parents have passed away.

Joey and Debbie Pilcher have taken what Mr. and Mrs. Pilcher started and grown the business. They have many advanced life support units, wheelchair transport vans and non emergency transports.Joey and a Debbie employ over 100 people.

Joey and Debbie run a tight operation. You will not find a single ambulance they have dirty. They have their own mechanic shop where they maintain their ambulances in top running condition.

They have stood in the gap for decades for communities when EMS was a problem. They have helped all areas in Houston County and other counties.

In the WTVY article it mentioned that help from Dothan is sometimes 45 minutes.

When Cottonwood Rescue was not operating. A call of a man not breathing. Cottonwood Police and Cottonwood Fire initiated CPR. The Pilcher Ambulance Rapid Response unit deployed ahead of the ambulance operated by Joey Pilcher and Jason Trammell. The ambulance was minutes behind them. Because of the Cottonwood Police and Cottonwood Fire, because of Trammell and Pilcher on the rapid response vehicle and the ambulance, the man is alive today.

So I do not want it left out there that Pilcher’s is slow in getting somewhere. Yes, the time call received, dispatched and travel time makes it 20 To 25 minutes, never let it be said that there is anything slow or non professional about Pilcher Ambulance.

Some fuss about them. Some Volunteer EMS are jealous of them. But Joey and Debbie Pilcher run a top notch operation. Probably the best in the State of Alabama.

And for the record, you don’t make a lot of money on 911 calls. In fact they cost you money. A lot of time people don’t have money to pay.

Cottonwood Rescue is in business to serve the community with a Ambulance in Cottonwood. We are not competition but rather partners with Pilcher Ambulance. Joey and Debbie Pilcher had their mechanics fix the ambulances and make sure in great working order.

So I did not want any misconceptions about Pilcher Ambulance We are fortunate to have them and they are our mentors of how the job is to be done.
