ONGOING • PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT Landmark Park members and volunteers Larry and Patti Puckett will present a special photography exhibit in the Interpretive Center Auditorium. Photos by the Pucketts were taken at Landmark Park and across the state of Alabama. Free with paid gate admission. 





ONGOING • GEM AND MINERAL EXHIBIT Members of the Gem and Mineral Club present  an exhibit of stones, minerals, fossils and information in the Interpretive Center Lobby. 





ONGOING • DRAWING FOR $500 TICKETS FOR SALE This fall, Landmark Park is giving YOU a chance to win $500 cash! The drawing will be held on October 7 during the Landmark Park Benefit Car Show. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $2 each and can be purchased at the park. 





OCTOBER 7 • LANDMARK PARK BENEFIT CAR SHOW 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Enjoy the cooler weather while viewing the large display of antique cars, ranging in age from “T” Models to sporty custom classics. $500 drawing. $10 to enter a car in the show. $5 for adults, $3 for kids, free for members to view the cars. The Car Show is sponsored by Durden Outdoor, The Joy 94.3 FM, WDHN, Barberitos, Goldfingers, Billy’s Paint and Body, Davis Oil and Troy Bank and Trust. The host hotel is the Hampton Inn. Mention the Car Show when you make your hotel reservations and receive $15 off the regular rate. 



 



FULL! OCTOBER 10-13 & 25 • HARVEST HEYDAYS Reinforce your science and history lessons with hands-on experiences at Harvest Heydays on October 10-13 and 25 at Landmark Park! Pick and stack peanuts, shuck and shell corn, pick out a pumpkin, taste sugar cane juice, build a scarecrow, play old fashioned games, visit the class photo station, get lost in the sorghum maze, play in Kernels of Fun, learn about cotton and enjoy a wagon ride. Harvest Heydays meets several state and national standards for Science and History. OCTOBER 14 • BLACKSMITH DEMO A volunteer will demonstrate in the Blacksmith Shop on the farm. 10 a.m .-2 p.m. with a break for lunch. Free with paid gate admission. 





OCTOBER 20-22 • LANDMARK PARK QUILT SHOW Friday & Sunday 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Held in conjunction with the park’s annual Fall Farm Day, this quilt show features over 100 antique and contemporary quilts displayed inside the Stokes Activity Barn. This juried show includes exhibits, door prizes, speakers and more.





OCTOBER 20 • CANE GRINDING DAY This day is designed for school children to have the opportunity to step back in  time and experience farm life in the early 1900’s. Along with many hands-on activities, your class will follow the complete process of syrup-making. Beginning with stripping and chopping the sugar cane, students will learn how the cane was ground down into juice and then the juice cooked into syrup. Students will have the chance to taste the fruit of their labors with biscuits and syrup from our Waddell House kitchen. Several other demonstrations will also be on the farm, including blacksmithing, quilting, butter churning, chair caning, and many more! OCTOBER 21 • FALL FARM DAY 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Come and watch how peanuts were harvested in the Wiregrass nearly 100 years ago. Enjoy the sights, sounds and sweet smells of cane grinding, syrup making, butter churning, soap making and other traditional farm activities. Other activities include music, antique tractors, wagon rides and the largest quilt display in the Wiregrass region. Sponsored by WTVY and the National Peanut Festival. 





FULL! OCTOBER 31-NOVEMBER 2, NOVEMBER 7-9, NOVEMBER 14-17 • LIVING HISTORY *Costumed Program!!* Give your students the experience of living and working on a Wiregrass Farmstead in the early 1900s. Students will get the opportunity to cook on the hearth, make butter, care for the farm animals, help in the garden and more! Costumed in period dress, students will be divided into small groups in order to participate at the different workstations. This half-day program will conclude with lunch (prepared by the students) at the Waddell House, traditional games, a hay ride, and an ice cream cone served from the Mar n Drugstore. **Due to the hands on nature of this program, classes are limited to a maximum of 30 students and a minimum of 20 students. Cost: $20/student (includes lunch and an ice cream). Program Length: 4 hours (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) Recommended age: 3rd-6th. PREREGISTERED SCHOOL GROUPS ONLY! THROUGH NOVEMBER • RETIRED MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH In appreciation for our military’s service to our country and our community, Landmark Park is holding several special offers for retired military during the month of November. Retired military who join Landmark Park during the month of November will receive $10 off any membership level. In addition to the November membership discount, retired military and their families are invited to visit Landmark Park November 11-13 and receive free admission. November 18 will feature free ice cream from the Martin Drugstore for retired military and their families, and free Digitarium Planetarium Programs on November 25 (show times are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.) 





TUESDAY-FRIDAYS IN DECEMBER • CHRISTMAS PAST Thinking of Christmas the way your grandparents described it to you? Students can experience some of the same activities and emotions of this very special season with cider tasting and story-telling by the fireplace. The children will also be invited to play parlor games and construct old-fashioned ornaments they may take home with them. **Due to the hands on nature of this program, groups are limited to approximately 30 students per session. DECEMBER 3 • DECORATING WORKSHOP Spread some holiday cheer at Landmark Park at 1 p.m. in the Interpretive Center Auditorium. Create wreaths, garlands and swags out of natural materials and decorate Landmark Park for Victorian Christmas and make some decorations to take home! Refreshments will be provided. Guests are encouraged to bring gloves and wire pliers. Call 334-794-3452 to reserve your space. This event is supported by the Wiregrass Master Gardeners Association.





DECEMBER 10 • VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Warm up to some holiday hospitality during Landmark Park’s annual open house. Visitors are invited to sip hot chocolate or mulled cider while children try their hand at making traditional Christmas decorations and enjoy a wagon ride around the property. A circuit-riding preacher will arrive to deliver a Christmas message in the historic Presbyterian Church and Santa will be available to visit with the kids. Admission is free and donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted for the Wiregrass United Way Area Food Bank.

Landmark Park will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The office will be closed (but park grounds open) on the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
