DOTHAN:  Eye Center South celebrates 30 years of their weekend symposium for optometric continuing education by featuring a special Cirque De Vol troupe performance at the Dothan Civic Center.  This is the first time a Cirque de Soleil-style event has ever been performed in Dothan.  The private 60-minute show will be held Friday, February 2 at 8:30pm.

“Thirty years of continued optometric education is a momentous occasion for Eye Center South and our community of eye health professionals.  We wanted to bring something very special to our symposium weekend for the 30th anniversary and we couldn’t think of anything more visually dynamic than a Cirque performance,” announced Dr. Marnix Heersink, co-founder of Eye Center South and the founder of the Eye Education Foundation which coordinates the continuing education weekend.  This year’s weekend educational event is being held from Friday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 4th at Eye Center South.

Dr. S. Heersink shared, “We are excited to bring in national leaders in the eye care industry to Dothan to discuss the latest advances in both the ophthalmic and optometric industries.” Presenters at this year’s meeting include: Dr. Bruce Onofrey, Houston, TX, Dr. Williams Townsend, Amarillo, TX, Dr. John McGreal, St. Louis, MO, Dr. Joseph Sowka, Plantation, FL, and Dr. Danica Marrelli, Houston, TX.  Surgeons from Eye Center South who are presenting at this year’s Symposium include: Dr. Thomas D. Bailey, Dr. Zsolt Bansagi, Dr. William Bennett, Dr. Marnix Heersink, Dr. Sebastian Heersink, Dr. Austin Henkel, Dr. Andy Leoncavallo and Dr. Irene Ludwig.

“This year’s program will be exceptional for the 165 optometrists from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee who are scheduled to attend our continuing education event,” added Dr. Heersink.

In addition to the optometric program, Eye Center South will be presenting a program on Saturday, February 6th, at the Clarion Inn Conference Center designed specifically for optometric technicians.  This has also become a very important aspect of the seminar weekend.

In total, over 400 eye care professionals and corporate representatives will be present in Dothan this weekend to gain the latest and most up-to-date information available – as well as provide significant economic impact to Dothan area businesses, airport and hotels.
