DOTHAN: Some of the local legislative delegation have had constituents come to them asking for legislation to be passed requiring physician identification in Emergency Rooms.
According to members of the legislative delegation it has come to their attention that PA's ( Physican Practictioners ) are seeing patients. The patients are under the belief these are actual physicians. They are working under the supervision of physicians but are not actually physicians.
Some local doctors have spoke with members of the legislative delegation to pass legislation requiring identification to be worn identifying if the person treating are actual doctors or not.
We do not know what the position of the hospitals will be on this issue. But we have confirmed it has been discussed with legislators.
The Alabama Legislature will kick the 2018 session off in January and close in April. Elections for primaries will be held in June 2018 with the General Election in November 2018.
