Due to extreme heat conditions in the Dothan / Houston County area, the City of Dothan would like to remind citizens that our recreation centers are open if they need a place to escape the conditions.
As temperatures continue to climb, it can pose a danger to those residents without air conditioning. According to Elston Jones, Dothan Leisure Services Director, “Westgate, Wiregrass, Andrew Belle, Walton Park and Doug Tew Recreation centers will be open until 9:00 P.M., Monday through Thursday and until 6 P.M. on Friday, for those citizens looking to escape the heat.”
Mr. Jones added that due to current ongoing programs, space will be limited at most centers this week.” According to Fire Chief Larry Williams, “Environmental conditions such as we are experiencing have the greatest impact, physically, on the older citizens of our community.”
“The hours of operation for our senior center will be evaluated daily, based on current conditions and forecasts, and additional releases will be sent should the City extend hours on upcoming days,” says City Manager Mike West.
