REHOBETH:      The Rehobeth Fire - Rescue will be holding a boot drive on TODAY.

The boot drive will be located on Highway 605 and Malvern Road and the intersection of Highway 203 and Malvern Road.

Rehobeth Fire - Rescue is a joint operation in providing fire services to the Rehobeth and surrounding community and EMS services to Rehobeth and the surrounding community.

The fire gets a $ 30 fire tax fee, however a lot of people are exempt. They get a portion of tobacco tax. But as you know with the constant push to stop smoking that fee goers down all of the time.

The EMS gets $ 26,000.00 from the Houston County Commission paid in quarterly installments of $ 6,750.00 each quarter.

To operate it costs money.

The first quarter of 2019, January through the last day of March, Rehobeth responded to 69 fire calls and 156 EMS calls. That is a combined total of 225 fire and EMS calls made by Rehobeth Fire - EMS.

One thing in common all fire and EMS calls have, none make appointments.

Volunteers are dwindling. Employers do not let people take off work to respond to fires and EMS calls. You have to be certified to drive the ambulance and certified in Emergency Medical Services and licensed in order to provide treatment.

Outside the city limits of Dothan, inside Houston County, in 2018 over 7,209 fire and EMS calls were answered by 17 Volunteer Fire, 5 Volunteer EMS, Pilcher and Headland Rescue in Houston County. Of those 7,209 over 4,600 were EMS calls.

You never know when and where the next emergency will be.

GUESS WHAT?    Do you go to the beach? To get there you HAVE TO DRIVE through areas covered by Volunteer Fire and EMS services. No way around it.

In Houston County we have over 200 fine men and women dedicated to serving this community and guests.

Help support them, please.
