DOTHAN:  Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) is pleased to welcome Arthur C. Kendig, MD, cardiac electrophysiologist (EP cardiologist), to the Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Kendig’s office, Heart Rhythm Clinic, is on the 5th floor of the SAMC Doctors Building.

An electrophysiologist or EP is a cardiologist who deals with the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. EP physicians complete at least one extra year of training after their general cardiology fellowship. EP physicians perform cardiac ablations, as well as implant and manage cardiac devices.

Cardiac ablation is used to correct heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias). This procedure is performed with a flexible wire inserted through a vein or artery in the groin. It is threaded to the heart to deliver energy in the form of heat or extreme cold, which modifies abnormal tissue in the heart causing the arrhythmia.

Dr. Kendig, board certified in cardiology and internal medicine, comes to Dothan from St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospitals in Savannah, Georgia. He has previously served on staff at SouthCoast Health in Savannah, South Carolina Heart Center/Providence Hospitals in Columbia, South Carolina, and Cleveland Clinic, in addition to other hospitals in Ohio and Iowa.

Dr. Kendig received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Malone College in Canton, Ohio. He earned his medical degree from Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, Ohio. He completed his internship and residency at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio and his fellowships in cardiology and EP cardiology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

When not working, Dr. Kendig enjoys spending time with family, including his wife Mary Kathryn (originally from Enterprise) and their 10-month old twins, Charlie and Julia. He and his wife are excited to be moving close to family. His hobbies include kayaking, travel and music.
