EVERYWHERE:     Please remember the 911 staff who is behind the scenes in your prayer life this week.

These men and women do a awesome job in what they have to do. The MOST IMPORTANT part of the public safety operation but often times the most over looked.

They deal with the parties calling, screaming and crying of the victims. It is the 911 staff who must calm them down and get accurate details to roll the services the victim(s) need.

Then the 911 staff must roll those services, law enforcement - fire - EMS - utility to the scene. If needed, the 911 staff who are Emergency Medical Dispatchers step the family-frinds-bystander who called it in through life saving instructions.

While the law enforcement - fire - EMS - utility are part of the scene the 911 staff never really gets closure because they are moving to the next calls.

They multi task, get the information, get it broadcast to those needed to roll, make sure information is gotten so repsonders know what they are walking into. Keep everyone calm. And do a great and awesome job.

If you saw what the 911 staff does and how they do it with so few people, you would be amazed.

The number one failure in major critical incidents is...communications. Read the after action reports. That failure is most of the time not on the part of the 911 staff but those in the field.

Radio sales have done more to screw up emergency communications. It was better in the 1970’s then it is today.

Agencies on different style radios. Radios that can not even talk to others in their own response areas.

And then some administrators with ego’s who can not get the ego out of the way to do what is best for the responders and public.

But it is the 911 staff who is the glue that keeps the wheels on the track. They are suppose to read the caller’s minds, the officers-fireman-EMS-utility minds. They are suppose to know all of the roads, bars, phone numbers and addresses. They are suppose to be supper human, talk on the phone and tell them how to deliver a baby, while handling a police chase, structure fire, and everything else at one time.

In Dothan - Houston County this week, officers shot at, a pedestrian struck and killed Friday night, a pedestrian struck and killed Saturday night, a self inflicted gunshot tonight. And natural deaths this weekend.

PRAY for the 911 staff. They do a lot!
