The Enterprise Police Department would like to inform the public of an phone scam in the Enterprise area. The potential victim will receive a phone call from a subject claiming to be a representative of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The caller will inform them if their taxes are not paid immediately with a prepaid debit card; local law enforcement will arrest them.
The IRS will not call citizens to demand immediate payment with a prepaid debit card. Enterprise residents who receive these calls can report them online to the Federal Trade Commission, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, or they can call 1-800-366-4484.
The Internal Revenue Service has an information page relating to scams on their website at www.irs.gov.
The Enterprise Police Department would like to encourage everyone to independently verify information if you receive this type of phone call and do not release personal information to these callers.
