DOTHAN: Visit Landmark Park on December 1 and 2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for the Scott 1817 Seminole War Battle reenactment. Boat builders, archeology networks and universities will be on hand to offer more information into the time period. A fierce battle reenactment will take place each day, and visitors can view a reconstructed keelboat and mobile museum, modern vendors, a food court, living history encampments, hatchet throwing, ball games and more. A church service will take place on Sunday, December 2, at 10 a.m. 

This event will be held at Landmark Park for one year only while repairs are being made to River Landing Park. Next year, it will return to Chattahoochee. Donations for Chattahoochee will be collected. 

Admission to this event is $4 for adults, $3 for kids and free for park members and children 2 and under. Chattahoochee residents will also receive free admission to this event (with ID). Landmark Park will observe special Sunday hours on December 2 by opening at 9 a.m. 

All other regularly scheduled park activities for that weekend (Holiday Decorating Workshop, Reptile Feeding, Dulcimer Jam Session and Wiregrass Woodturners Demo and Meeting) will go on at the park as planned. 

 

The Scott 1817 Seminole War Battle commemorates the 1817 attack on Lt. Richard W. Scott’s command by Seminole, Red Stick Creek, Black Seminole, Miccouskee and Yuchi warriors. The battle was the first U. S. defeat of the Seminole Wars. Without this series of wars, the United Stews would be very different. Landmark Park is a 135-acre natural science and history museum located on the outskirts of Dothan. Features of the park include nature trails, a planetarium, playground, picnic areas, an elevated boardwalk, a turn-of-the-century farmstead with sheep, chickens, cows and other farm animals and crops typical of an 1890s farm.

 In addition, the park includes a drugstore with operating soda fountain, one-room school, general store, and historic church, all preserved from the surrounding area. The park is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
