DOTHAN: Southeast Alabama Community Theatre is proud to partner with the Cultural Arts Center for an annual choral and theatre festival, hosting competitors from the Tri-State area. High school and middle school students compete with monologues, duologues, and scenes. A three-judge panel reviews each presentation and scores for different categories such as characterization, movement and expression, vocal interpretation, and rhythm. Musical solos and duets are new to the competition this year.

Theatre Festival chair Gwin Neal King says the goal is to offer constructive feedback for students interested in theatre, or any career that involves public speaking and communication. “Our focus is less about the score and more about providing each student with valuable information that helps them further develop their skills.”

This year’s judges are Autumn Brown, Education Director from Centerstage, Birmingham, Deborah Liss-Green, Director of Theatre at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga., and Jesse Graham Galas, Instructor of Movement and Acting at Troy University in Troy, Ala.

The festival takes place Monday, Nov. 5 through Wednesday, Nov. 7.

The public is invited to observe for a $2 minimum donation at the door.

A schedule of schools and groups participating is available at SEACT.com. SEACT awards first through third place, based on individual and group scores. Funding for this event is provided in part by Barbara & Leon Minsky, and the many supporters of Southeast Alabama Community Theatre. Southeast Alabama Community Theatre (SEACT) has a mission to provide a continuing source of quality live entertainment and theatrical experiences on stage and behind the scenes for the Wiregrass area. The SEACT season is made possible by generous support from subscribers, and personal and corporate contributions.
