HOUSTON COUNTY: Social Media.
Today people do not realize what they post causes a lot of concerns and what is perceived as threats. When posted these social media threats causes a lot of law enforcement to conduct thorough investigations.
Recently we spoke with Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza concerning social media, schools, and the investigations conducted.
Sheriff Valenza, with over 38 years experience with Houston County Sheriff Department, said when complaints are made concerning threats on social media the investigations begin immediately. The Donald Valenza definition of "immediately" is just that, no matter the time of day or night, investigators hit the street.
Should Investigators be unable to locate witnesses, the suspect is contacted. Recently one was contacted at 1 AM. Woke up, the suspect and the family.
Sheriff Valenza said he will NEVER - NEVER - allow school to begin with any hint of danger for the faculty or students. Valenza said he would place 10 or more Deputies in the school or evacuate and close the school before he will allow a child to be in danger.
Sheriff Valzenza also cautioned about social media. Things grow and people spread rumors and not facts. Law Enforcement does not release much information on an on-going investigation. They just can't and be thorough on an investigation.
A good investigator never releases much details of an on-going investigation.
So rest assured, Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza and the team of the Houston County Sheriff Department will always be on top of information given. And Sheriff Valenza urges anyone that sees information to contact the Houston County Sheriff Department.
Valenza and the team of Houston County Sheriff Department also studies events that occur elsewhere. Valenza stresses that you always learn from incidents which occur. His prayer is that no one ever has to learn from something happening in Dothan - Houston County.
