Shooting in Jackson County

During the early evening hours of Sunday, January 7, 2018, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to the shooting of an 8 year old female juvenile at a residence located off of Hwy 73 S near the Jackson/Calhoun County line.


Uniformed Patrol Deputies and Investigators of the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate that the victim was shot as a result of a negligent discharge.


The victim was life-flighted to a nearby hospital, but was later transported to the Pensacola area for pediatric attention. The victim is last known to be in stable condition, but is still currently undergoing treatment for her injuries.


At this time no arrests have been made in relation to this case.
